Maternal Health Information Management Roundtable

This month we welcomed Dr. Kay Charles and Dr. Lisa Romero, expert advisors from the Center's for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Division of Reproductive Health as our special guests. They presented on the topic of the CDC's work on the United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) for maternal health. USCDI aids in the identification and establishment of domain and program-specific data element lists that operate as extensions to the existing USCDI. The program is to provide an avenue for federal and industry partners to establish, harmonize, and advance the use of interoperable data element lists that extend beyond the core data in the USCDI in order to meet specific programmatic and/or use case requirement.

We took a closer look at the state of Mississippi and the efforts of Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) which have resulted in increased access to telehealth for everyone and especially rural Americans.

Virginia maternal health was in the spotlight for September 2022. We were honored to be joined by Rene Cabral-Daniels, JD, MPH, FHIMSS, CEO of Cenevia. Rene shared the approach that state officials, healthcare, and communities took to address maternal health issues and how those steps have proven to be successful. We also discussed current-day needs and plans that are being adopted by FQHCs and others to address new areas of need.

In the month of June, we turned our attention to the Liberty & Prosperity State, New Jersey. The state is working diligently to address its high rates of maternal mortality and morbidity. We explored both the related and associated challenges that are plaguing the state and what strategies are being taken to address them.
